Homemade Baked Egg Rolls


Homemade Baked Egg Rolls

Makes: 5

Serves: 2 – 3

You will need

For the filling: (any filling of your choice - veg or non veg , leftover dry curries)

or

1 tablespoon oil

1 onion, finely chopped

6 cloves garlic, finely chopped

2 boiled eggs,cut into small cubes (or you can use 200 g boiled & boneless chicken pieces or minced meat or 200 g finely chopped paneer)

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

½ teaspoon soy sauce

½ teaspoon black pepper powder

¼ teaspoon salt (or to taste)

Method

Heat oil in a frying pan. Add chopped onion and fry till pink color. Add chopped garlic and fry till golden color.

Add boiled egg pieces or boiled and boneless chicken or minced meat or chopped paneer. Saute well for 2 – 3 minutes.

Add Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, pepper powder and salt to taste. Mix all the ingredients well. Cover with a lid and cook on a low heat for 5 – 8 minutes or until done and egg / chicken / paneer well mixed with sauces and spices / dry in consistency (brown in color). Switch off the heat and keep aside.

For Pastry:

1 cup (100 g) all purpose flour (maida) + 4 tablespoon spoon (extra flour)

1 egg

25 g cold butter

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sesame seeds

½ teaspoon oil (to grease baking tray)

1 teaspoon butter

Method

In a wide bowl, mix flour, butter, egg and salt. Mix all the ingredients well. Do not mix with water or milk. Knead well and make a soft dough (add reserved extra 2 - 4 tablespoons of flour if required). Keep aside in an airtight container for 15 minutes.

Sprinkle some dry flour and roll this dough into sheet of 25 cm in length and 23 cm in width. Keep filling mixture evenly from top to end. Roll from one end to another. Now the roll is cylindrical in shape (gently make a perfect cylindrical shape). Cut 1 ½ or 2 – inch pieces. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top of the roll.

Preheat oven (OTG) at 250 * C or 475* F.

Grease a baking tray with ½ teaspoon oil. Arrange rolls in a baking tray and bake for 15 – 18 minutes until golden color. Remove from oven and gently apply butter on top of the rolls (with the help of a brush). Serve hot with tomato sauce or mayonnaise or any dip.
