Potato / Batata Song
(Easy pressure cooker method with Tomatoes and Kashmiri red chilli powder)

A tasty side dish goes well with Dosa (Polo) / Rotis / Rice. Popular in Konkani cuisine.

Serves: 3

You will need

2 teaspoon oil
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/4 teaspoon jeera (cumin seeds)
2 potatoes, cut into 1/2 - inch cubes
2 tomatoes, chopped (pick well ripe)
3/4 teaspoon Kashmiri red chilli powder
3/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
1/4 teaspoon hing (asafoetida)
300 ml water (1 1/2 cup)
1 tablespoon grated coconut (optional)

Method

In a pressure cooker, heat oil on a medium heat. Add mustard seeds. When they crackle, add jeera. Saute for 1 minute.

Add cubed potatoes, chopped tomatoes, Kashmiri red chilli powder, salt to taste, 300 ml water and hing.

Close the pressure cooker lid. Reduce the heat to medium after 3 rd whistle and cook on a low heat for 7 minutes. Allow the cooker to cool naturally. Open the lid, sprinkle grated coconut (optional) and serve hot with Dosas / Polo / Rotis / Rice...
